The Silk Walk Experience

The Silk Walk transitioned from a unique step at the Miss Universe Pageant, to an artistic movement that will forever define Bahamian culture and confidence, through the new docu-film, “The Silk Walk Experience”. At the heart of this evolution is Chantel O'Brian, model, filmmaker, life coach, and the first Bahamian woman to reach the top three in the Miss Universe competition. Beyond her participation in pageants, today Chantel is a storyteller and a cultural architect who bridges fashion, self-development and national representation. Today she represents her own company, P.S. O'Brian Consulting, where she further develops the art of presence and confidence with Bahamians, and provides a platform for the international recognition of Bahamian talent.

INTERVIEW

The Silk Walk has a very distinct identity. What was the core inspiration behind the brand’s creation?

I would have never imagined that walking the Miss Universe stage would spark something so powerful, or that a walk could make people feel something. To this day, I’m often stopped and reminded of that moment. It became the foundation of what we now know as the Silk Walk.

How does the Silk Walk redefine what it means to be “pageant ready”, and how does it translate beyond pageantry into everyday confidence for women?

It’s about embodiment. Being so certain of your inner presence that you’re unafraid to put it on display. That kind of confidence is a superpower that many women already possess, but are often hesitant to wield. I’ve found a way to infuse that philosophy into everything I do, including “The Silk Walk Experience” docu-film.

As the first Bahamian woman to place in the Miss Universe finals, how did your personal journey influence the values and message embedded in “The Silk Walk”?

Deciding to produce this film required me to see myself through a different lens. It wasn’t about being picture or pose perfect, but constantly exploring how to create, sometimes out of nothing.

“The Silk Walk” seems rooted in sisterhood and mentorship. What gaps in female empowerment or representation were you hoping this initiative would fill?

“The Silk Walk Experience” was born out of the realization that so many talented individuals often doubt their own power, creativity, and worth. Throughout my journey, I’ve seen the gaps in

mentorship, representation, and access that prevent many from fully stepping into their potential. “The Silk Walk” was created to bridge those gaps.

What does the name Silk Walk symbolize, and how does that reflect the level of poise, softness, and power you aim to cultivate in your clients?

It represents a mindset just as much as a movement: the ability to flow with grace while standing firmly in your power. The name reflects the kind of confidence I aim to cultivate in my clients and within the film itself, confidence that doesn’t shout, but speaks volumes through presence, poise, and purpose.

Why should people care about the film?

People should care about “The Silk Walk Experience” because it captures and celebrates Bahamian identity through fashion, storytelling, and artistry, preserving the stories of designers, models, and creatives who are shaping the modern Bahamian narrative. It reframes how the world sees The Bahamas.

How does “The Silk Walk” merge pageant training with personal development, emotional intelligence, and mindset coaching?

The foundation of “The Silk Walk” is confidence. I love teaching individuals how to carry themselves with authenticity, grace, and self-awareness, both on and off the stage.

Through a blend of pageant techniques, behavioral science, and emotional intelligence principles, my clients learn how to manage nerves, communicate with intention, and project a strong sense of self.

What type of woman is “The Silk Walk” for?

“The Silk Walk” is for every woman who is ready to step into her next level of confidence, influence, and visibility. It’s designed for women who are building brands, leading teams, launching businesses, walking into boardrooms, or simply reclaiming their sense of presence and power.

Where do you envision “The Silk Walk Experience” docu-film in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see “The Silk Walk Experience” growing into a global platform that celebrates confidence, creativity, and cultural excellence from island nations and beyond.
